Frequently Asked Questions

Does metal have to be clean before I use VCI anti-corrosion products?

Yes. But that’s easy, because we can provide you with the proper cleaning fluids. We can even provide products that remove rust and restores corroded metal to look like new.

What if I’m new to using Protektite’s products?

Protektite has a team of experts. We can provide practical, shop floor training. Whether you need to learn the ins and outs of making a vacuum sealed moisture barrier, how to apply anti-corrosion products or the proper spacing for installing our fastener systems, we can help.

What is a vacuum sealed moisture barrier and how does it work?

Your products can be protected, using a vacuum-sealed, moisture-barrier. This barrier or envelope controls the environment that surrounds your products. All barrier materials allow a small amount of vapour or air to penetrate.

Our TMF 275 foil barrier is more than 10 times more impenetrable than regular plastic sheeting. Compared to a taped plastic sheet, our heat sealed (welded) foil envelope, is virtually air tight. In this sealed environment, the ambient conditions are controlled, eliminating water and corrosion damage. When storing for long periods of time our technicians can recommend the appropriate application of drying agents and / or corrosion inhibitors. Your valuable products emerge in pristine, original condition.

How can I make a Vacuum Sealed Moisture barrier from TMF 275?

The foil, barrier material is welded, to form an envelope; using a heat sealer. Moisture and/or corrosion inhibitors are placed inside, with your product. Air is evacuated to make the envelope conform to the shape of your product. The last section at the edge of the envelope is sealed.

Do your VCI’s meet NATO and Military Specs?

Yes. Our VCI’s are widely used in and and meet military and NATO specifications and standards. In the products sections, please download the product and material handling sheets for NSN and MIL spec numbers.

What are VCI’s (Vapour corrosion inhibitors)

Vapour corrosion inhibitors (VCI’s) were originally developed in the 1940’s to protect metals in tropical environments. They have evolved into a range of products that are commonly used protect ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Inhibiting corrosion during shipments, storage and for general use is a key investment to protecting valuable assets that are susceptible to corrosion.

Do Protektite VCI’s contain Nitrites or carcinogens?

No. Protektite offers a unique range of VCI’s that do not contain carcinogens.

Nitorsamines are cancer causing chemicals that are known to cause cancer. When meat is charred, for instance the reaction creates higher levels of nitrosamines. Many VCI’s on the market contain these same chemicals and are harmful and potentially deadly to people.

Protektite VCI’s are non-carcinogenic, 100% Nitrite Free, biodegradable that offer long term protection and rust inhibition. We pride ourselves on putting your safety first.

Do Protektite products inhibit rust and corrosion on multiple metals?

Yes. Protektite products are rust inhibiting VCI’s that protect from corrosion on both Ferrous and non-ferrous metals. (Iron based or non iron.)
